Republican announced additional 10% tariffs for countries opposed to the annexation of Greenland
Which European imagined that the threat to their territory would not come from Russia, but from its main ally, the USA. Trump openly talks about annexing ? The objective explained by Trump has caused diplomatic discomfort in European countries and even reinforced the island’s security.
Trump will probably not forcibly annex the icy island, which belongs to Denmark (a member of NATO). The US president must apply all types of pressure to get Denmark to sell Greenland at a bargain price.
One of these pressures is already underway. Trump announced additional 10% tariffs for countries opposed to the annexation of Greenland. As a result, some European countries would have tariffs of 25% (15% already charged plus an additional 10%).
But Trump’s bullet is still to come and it is Europe’s biggest nightmare: the US’s fear of leaving NATO. If Trump uses this card at the negotiating table, Denmark could sell Greenland at a bargain price.
