Creamy sauce and stringy cheese reign supreme here. Recipe for casserole with cream sauce

Potatoes can be used to prepare many tasty dishes, from pancakes, through French fries, to various types of casseroles. One of the simplest, yet tastiest and most impressive potato dishes is casserole with cream sauce. It combines delicate slices of potatoes and onions, layered and baked in a delicious, rich sauce based on cheese and cream. It’s perfect as a dinner for the whole family, it’s best to make a larger portion at once, so you’ll have a delicious meal for several days.

To prepare this recipe, you will need:

  • 1.2 kg of potatoes,
  • 400 ml of cream 18%,
  • 100 g tartego sera cheddar,
  • 50 g of grated mozzarella,
  • 1 onion,
  • 3 tablespoons of butter,
  • 3 tablespoons of wheat flour,
  • 1 teaspoon of mustard,
  • a teaspoon of rosemary,
  • ¾ teaspoon of salt,
  • ½ teaspoon of pepper.

Additionally:

You can eat the finished casserole alone or serve it with a piece of fried, baked or grilled chicken breast. Then you will have an even more filling dinner.

Wash the potatoes and cut them into slices about 1.5 cm thick, and chop the onion as thinly as possible. Place them in a bowl and season with half the salt and pepper. Mix everything thoroughly to evenly coat the ingredients.

Place the potatoes and onions in small piles and then transfer them horizontally to an ovenproof dish greased with butter.

Melt the butter in a pot and add the flour. Fry everything for 2-3 minutes, then add mustard, other spices and cream. Also add some rosemary. Heat everything over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the sauce is thick and bubbling. Remove it from the heat and gently stir in the cheddar cheese.

Pour the prepared cream sauce over the potatoes, pouring it thoroughly between the gaps. Sprinkle everything with mozzarella cheese.

Cover the casserole with cream sauce with aluminum foil and place the ovenproof dish in the oven preheated to 200 degrees Celsius and bake for about 60 minutes.

Then remove the foil and bake for another 20-30 minutes, until the potatoes are lightly browned and completely ready.

Remove the casserole from the oven and set aside for 15 minutes before serving. Serve with rosemary.
