The minister has already informed allies that she will run for Paraná, at the request of the president. According to PT members, Gleisi has not yet announced his decision pending a party meeting in the state, on Tuesday night (20), when his candidacy should be confirmed.
Still according to PT members, the general director of Itaipu, Ênio Verri, has even given up his pre-candidacy for the Senate after being informed of Lula’s preference for Gleisi’s name.
She already intended to leave the Institutional Relations Secretariat to run for , whose election was considered the most certain way to continue her mandate for at least another four years. But, on Wednesday (14), Lula spoke with Gleisi and said that he would agree to his departure from the government as long as he went to run for the Senate.
In the opinion of PT members, there is a chance of victory in the state in a scenario of splits on the right in Paraná. Gleisi stated to interlocutors that he would not refuse Lula’s request. One of its tasks will be the defense of the federal government.
The minister said she was excited to fulfill what she considers a mission given by the president. The one from Paraná, already aware of Lula’s request, also did not take a position and awaits an official position from Gleisi to assemble its majority ticket.
The minister, who presided over the PT until last year, was previously a senator, from 2011 to 2019.
