In court, Prince Harry says tabloid turned Meghan’s life into “hell”

Prince Harry held back tears when he said that the newspaper ‍Daily Mail made the life of his wife, Meghan, ‘a real hell’ during testimony this Wednesday at the ‌High Court in London, in his lawsuit for breach of privacy against the newspaper’s publisher.

The Duke of Sussex, 41, and six other plaintiffs, including singer Elton John, are ‌suing Associated Newspapers, publisher of the Mail, for ‌privacy breaches that occurred from the early 1990s to the 2010s.

Associated, which also publishes the Mail on Sunday, called the allegations ‘absurd slander’, stating that ‌its journalists had legitimate sources of information, including friends and acquaintances of the celebrities.

In court, Prince Harry says tabloid turned Meghan's life into “hell”

Having become, in 2023, the first member of royalty in 130 years to testify in court in another of his lawsuits against the press, King Charles’ youngest son responded combatively to questions from Associated lawyer Antony White, but became emotional when asked about the impact of the case.

“I think it’s fundamentally wrong that we have to go through this again when all we asked for was an apology and for them to take responsibility,” he said. ‘It’s a horrible experience and the worst thing is that when I speak out against them, they keep persecuting me.’

His voice breaking, ‍Harry added: ‘They’ve made my wife’s life a living hell.’

Continues after advertising

Earlier, he repeatedly rejected the lawyer’s claims that the journalists were close to his ‘leaky’ social circle.

“Lest there be any doubt, I’m not friends with any of these journalists and never have been,” Harry said in often heated discussions with White. He added: ‘My social circles weren’t leakers. I want to make this absolutely clear.’
