Mercosur at risk? European Parliament sends agreement to court

European Parliament approves report that calls for a minimum age of 16 to access social networks

Resolution was approved at the tangent

The European Parliament (EP) approved this Wednesday by a majority of ten votes the sending of the agreement between the European Union (EU) and Mercosur to the European Court of Justice to verify its compatibility with community legislation.

The resolution was approved by MEPs with 334 votes in favor, 324 against and 11 abstentions, out of 669 validated votes.

Launched by the political families of the Left (includes the PCP and the BE) and the Greens, it raised the necessary votes among several political groups to request the analysis of the agreement by the Court of Justice of the European Union.

The European Commission has already regretted, through its Trade Spokesperson, Olof Gil, the MEPs’ decision.

“Based on our analysis, the questions raised by the EP in this motion are not justified”, said Gil.
