Opposition must go to the STF if Alcolumbre does not extend CPMI – 01/20/2026 – Panel

Opposition members believe that the president of Congress, Davi Alcolumbre (União-AP), does not extend the commission, which expires at the end of March. The idea is for the investigation to be extended for another 120 days.

The legal argument is that the extension is automatic if there is a request with a minimum number of signatures. But there is also an interpretation that Alcolumbre needs to read the request in plenary, and he has shown signs that he does not intend to do that.

Among the opposition’s political arguments are having more time to investigate bank loans and focusing on relationships between businessmen
