The accumulation of rubble in a house on Rua de Tânger, in Rio Tinto, Gondomar, continues to worry residents of the area, who warn of public health and safety risks. According to neighbors, the situation has been going on for at least two years and, despite interventions by the authorities, the problem is recurring.
Speaking to Jornal de Notícias, residents of the area describe an unsustainable scenario, with rubbish accumulated inside the house, in the courtyard, in the garden and in outbuildings, in addition to the presence of rats and intense smells. The fear of fires and robberies is a constant among those who live nearby.
The Gondomar Chamber confirmed that the process has been monitored since 2019, with coercive cleanings having been carried out which allowed the removal of around 300 cubic meters of rubbish. Even so, the municipality admits that the resident does not recognize the need for intervention and stopped cooperating, which is why the situation was reported to the Public Ministry.
The Rio Tinto Parish Council indicated that further cleaning is planned, although it recognizes that the problem could arise again without a definitive solution. Social Security stated that it contacted the competent authorities to investigate the situation.
