Saudi Arabia and seven other Muslim-majority countries, including Qatar and Turkey, accepted, this Wednesday, the invitation of US President Donald Trump to join the Peace Council.

After Trump’s announcement of Riyadh diplomacy reported, this Wednesday, that the decision to integrate this new entity was taken jointly by the Foreign Affairs ministers of ASaudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, United Arab Emirates, Türkiye, Indonesia and Pakistanwho praised the “peace efforts” promoted by the North American leader.

Trump will preside on Thursday in Davos (Switzerland), where the to the ceremony creating the Peace Council, a new international organization promoted by the republican politician with the aim of putting an end to armed conflicts.

The White House had initially announced the creation of the Peace Council as part of the United States’ plan to end the war in the Gaza Strip and oversee the reconstruction of the Palestinian territory.

According to the draft of the organization’s founding document, cited in recent days by several international media, its mandate will be broader, aiming to act as a global platform for mediation and conflict resolution, in a model that could function as an alternative to the United Nations.

The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also confirmed this Wednesday that Israel agreed to join the new body.

However, Netanyahu opposed the participation of Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Qatari diplomat Ali Al-Thawadi in the Executive Committee for Gaza, which is expected to operate under the auspices of the Peace Council.

The Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, and the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, had previously announced their adherence to the new body proposed by Washington.

Portuguese government is analyzing invitation

The Portuguese Government reported on Tuesday that it is analyzing the invitation from the United States to join the Peace Council for the Gaza Strip, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Paulo Rangel, recognizing “some doubts” in the configuration of this organization.

During a hearing at the parliamentary committee on Foreign Affairs and Portuguese Communities, Paulo Rangel, stated that Portugal received, on the 16th, the invitation from the Donald Trump administration.

The Holy See was also invited to join the Peace Council proposed by North American President Donald Trump, and Pope Leo XIV is analyzing the proposal, the Vatican Secretary of State revealed today.
