The triangular aircraft, detected with thermal vision equipment, resembles one previously photographed in 2014. The sighting coincided with a radio communication in code.
A triangular-shaped plane was captured through thermal imaging, in the early hours of January 14, in the restricted airspace of the famous .
The mysterious aircraft was photographed by Anders Ottesoncreator of the YouTube channel, while camping on Groom Lake Road, near the road leading to the main gate of the famous secret base in Nevada, and his silhouette matches photographs taken in 2014 in Kansas Texas.
The images, recorded using an AGM TM50-640 thermal imaging camera, show a officially unidentified aerial platformwhich suggests that the development program for this aircraft, which is classified as secret, is operational for at least twelve years.
According to , Otteson explained that “he was camping near Groom Lake Road, the road that leads to the main gate of Area 51. I heard what there appeared to be several aircraft in the valley. There were no visible lights, so I started scanning the sky for a while with a thermal imaging device.”
The sighting occurred while a B-2 Spirit bomber operated in the same area as the callsign REARM71 for about four hours before returning to Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri.
After repositioning his equipment closer to the base, Otteson located the triangular aircraft: “The trailing edge is different from the B-2with its characteristic jagged trailing edge.”
The trailing edge is the rear part of the wingand its design is crucial to reduce radar signaturethe signal that is picked up by an enemy radar.
Not a known plane
The shape of the captured device differs markedly from the B-2 Spirit or the B-21 Raider, the stealth strategic bombers with a flying wing configuration that the United States has operated since 1997, notes the .
During the flight, other people detected a mysterious radio transmission. The audio had a very high density of code wordswith references to appetizers, drinks and everyday objects such as Corona, Pretzel, Garlic, Mustard and Michelob.
Given the presence of the clearly identifiable B-2 Spirit operating in the same airspace together with a second aircraft that remained ‘invisible’, both visually and electronically, this could have been some type of comparative flight test between two projects.
The 2026 thermal image bears a striking resemblance to daytime photographs taken in February 2014 over Wichita, Kansas, which showed a large, dark aircraft with flying wing configuration and proportions that did not correspond to any known operational type.
On March 10, 2014, Steve Douglass e Dean Muskett photographed three mysterious planes flying at high altitude over Amarillo, Texas. The images showed what appeared to be a plane with falmost boomerang shapeequipped with two engines.
Despite years of speculation, an official explanation was never offered, and the aircraft over Wichita has never been publicly identified nor seen again.
