The statue of Cristiano Ronaldo, located at the entrance to the museum dedicated to the player in Funchal, was set on fire by a young man who recorded the action on video and published the images on social media. The case occurred on Madeira Island and is treated as a crime of vandalism by the local police.
In a statement, the Madeira Public Security Police (PSP) said it was working to identify the person responsible for the attack. In the video released, the individual appears with a pixelated image while setting fire to the life-size statue, one of the main tourist attractions in the area.
The CR7 Museum, opened in 2013 in the player’s hometown, brings together historic shirts, trophies and awards won throughout Cristiano Ronaldo’s career. The statue, positioned outside, is traditionally used by visitors for photos and tourist records.
