The governor of , (Republicans), canceled the (PL) on Thursday (22) and said he will ask for a new date in the future.
The conversation between Bolsonaro and Tarcísio would be the first since the former president was the oldest to contest the elections against Lula (PT). This occurred in September, when Bolsonaro was still under house arrest.
People close to the duo claim that the conversation had been scheduled at the request of the former president — now imprisoned in the Military Police Battalion, next to the Papuda Penitentiary Complex.
The expectation was that Bolsonaro would tell the governor that he is counting on him for re-election to the Government of São Paulo and that Flávio is his candidate for president.
In a press release, Tarcísio claimed to have commitments in the state. “Governor Tarcísio de Freitas’ visit to President Bolsonaro will be postponed at the governor’s request to fulfill commitments in São Paulo. A new date will be requested,” said the governor’s office.
An ally of Flávio says that Tarcísio needs to be given an earful by Bolsonaro. According to this interlocutor, if the governor insists on embarrassed support even after an explicit request from the former president, he could risk losing voters in the state of São Paulo.
Bolsonaristas hoped that the conversation would serve to show alignment on the right. A federal deputy claims that many parliamentarians still do not understand that Bolsonaro’s decision regarding his son is for real. In this sense, he says, it will be important for Tarcísio to also say that he heard from the former president that the chosen one is Flávio.
During a house delivery event in São José da Bela Vista, in , this Tuesday (20), Tarcísio was asked about the visit and said he would show solidarity with a friend.
“I’m pleased he [] gave me this opportunity. And I’m going there to visit a friend, especially a great friend. A person I have a lot of regard for. I’m going to express my solidarity, express my support, see if he needs anything and reinforce that he will always be able to count on me”, he stated.
Flávio communicated his father’s decision about his candidacy on December 5th. The senator traveled to São Paulo to talk to Tarcísio, but even former first lady Michelle Bolsonaro (PL) was taken by surprise by the announcement.
Faced with skepticism from the political world, on December 25th, handwritten by Bolsonaro confirming the nomination of his eldest son to contest the elections against Lula.
Bolsonaro intended to communicate the decision in an interview with the Metrópoles portal — in a kind of public blessing and passing of the baton. The interview was authorized by the minister of the (Supreme Federal Court) Alexandre de Moraes, but was canceled by the former president due to alleged health issues.

People close to Flávio and Tarcísio say that the two also need to talk about the governor’s platform in São Paulo. Former State Secretary of Security Guilherme Derrite (PP) is a pre-candidate for the Senate, but the second place on the ticket — which will be allocated to the PL — is still open.
