Technician arrested for killing patients in the ICU gave three different versions

Nursing technician Marcos Vinícius Silva Barbosa de Araújo, 24 years old, suspected of killing three patients by applying high doses of a chemical substance, gave three different versions to the Civil Police during his testimony. The crimes occurred in the ICU of Hospital Anchieta, in Taguatinga.

In addition to Marcos, two technicians from the same hospital were arrested: Amanda Rodrigues de Sousa, 28, and Marcela Camilly Alves da Silva, 22.

According to the police, Marcos demonstrated coldness when questioned about the facts. Initially, he denied any involvement with the deaths. He claimed that he only followed the instructions given by doctors, especially regarding dosages. Afterwards, Marcos changed the version. He confessed to the crime and gave justification for the disturbance on duty. “He said he was stressed, that he was going to release everyone and, therefore, he took this action”, said delegate Maurício Iacozzilli, from the Homicide and Personal Protection Coordination (CHPP).

Finally, Marcos told another story. He again admitted using the substances, but justified the acts as a way of “alleviating” the suffering of the victims.

Crimes

The three dead patients are professor Miranilde Pereira da Silva, 75 years old; Marcos Moreira, 33, postal worker; and João Clemente, 63, a Caesb employee. They died between November and December 2025 and had no history of serious illnesses.

João Clemente, for example, was admitted to Anchieta on November 4 to treat a blood clot in his head. The surgery was a success, the family said. While he was in bed due to pulmonary complications after extubation, he suffered two cardiac arrests. The last one, on November 17th.

The PCDF also found that one of the applications of the chemical substance used by the nursing technician to kill Professor Miranilde occurred while doctors were trying to revive her in the ICU.

According to the delegate, Miranilde suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest and the medical team was called to begin resuscitation protocols. During the maneuvers, Marcos would have gone to the syringe point and injected a new dose of the chemical substance, without the team noticing.

The action was caught on security cameras. The footage is kept confidential by the police. Still according to the police chief, with the lack of chemical substance, Marcos injected more than 10 doses of disinfectant into the teacher’s vein.
