- Vice President JD Vance and his wife are expecting their fourth child at the end of July.
- Vance has long called on Americans to have more children.
- The birth of a child while on duty is rather exceptional in the US.
US Vice President JD Vance and his wife Usha are expecting a son at the end of July. According to the AP agency, they announced it on social networks on Tuesday. This is their fourth child after two sons – Ewan and Vivek – and daughter Mirabel.
A post on social media said both mother and child are fine. In it, the Vances also thanked the military doctors and staff in their household, who do everything to “serve the country while enjoying a wonderful life with their children.” News of the addition to the Republican vice president’s family comes as Vance repeatedly calls on Americans to have more children.
Vance has expressed concern about the declining birth rate in the US since the beginning of his political career in 2021when he was running for the post of a member of the US Senate for the state of Ohio. He repeated his call in February 2025 when he declared at the March for Life event: “I want more children in the United States of America.” JD Vance often travels abroad with his wife and children, who board Air Force Two for night flights already dressed in their pajamas.
AP reminded that rather, it tends to be the exception when people in the highest leadership positions in the US have children while in office. One well-documented exception was US President Grover Cleveland, whose wife Frances gave birth to their second child in 1893, during her husband’s second term.
