US President references French leader’s appearance during his speech at the World Economic Forum
The President of the United States, Donald Trump (Republican Party), mocked the Emmanuel Macron (Renaissance, center), during his speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, this Wednesday (21.Jan.2026).
“What the hell happened there?”, said the American president, making direct mention of the Frenchman’s glasses.
Macron drew attention when he spoke, on Tuesday (20 January), wearing sunglasses in a closed environment. The French president did not explain the reason for the accessory during the presentation.

The information was later released by the Élysée Palace, which stated that Macron used the glasses to protect his eyes after a blood vessel in the region ruptured. Macron declared that the condition is “totally benign and insignificant”.
Trump also said he had personal appreciation for Macron “I like him, I really do. It’s hard to believe, isn’t it?”, stated the American president, before declaring that France has been taking advantage of the United States in drug pricing policy for more than 30 years.
