The President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated this Wednesday (20) that fuel prices are lower in the country after the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, on January 2, citing values below US$2 per gallon.
In a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, the American leader highlighted that the invaded country has cooperated with Washington and that, thanks to this, the USA would have obtained 50 million barrels of Venezuelan oil.
According to Trump, the initiative will allow Venezuela to “make more money” than in the last 20 years.
“Last week we got 50 million barrels of oil from Venezuela. It’s been a fantastic thing, it was an incredible country 20 years ago, but policies ended it, and we are helping,” he said.
“These 50 million barrels will be shared with them and will bring them more money. Venezuela has been doing very well, we appreciate the cooperation,” added Trump.
Trump also stated that, shortly after the invasion, Venezuela decided to negotiate an agreement with the United States government and suggested that other countries follow suit. “Venezuela is going to do well. As soon as the attack ended, they said, ‘let’s make a deal’. More people should do that,” he declared.

Europe “is not on the right path”
The American president once again criticized European leaders, stating that the continent “is not on the right path”. According to him, some places in Europe “are no longer recognizable”.
The statements come as the US threatens to impose progressive tariffs on eight European countries, while also pushing for the acquisition of Greenland, a territory belonging to Denmark.
In the speech, Trump listed the achievements of his first year in the new term and said that the objective of imposing tariffs is to make other countries pay for the “damages” caused to the USA.
“With tariffs, we reduced the American trade deficit, which was one of the largest in the world, without causing inflation,” he stated, highlighting that the measures have already helped to reduce the monthly deficit by 77%.
When justifying the pressure on other countries, Trump stated that “when the US does well, other countries follow.”
He also praised the dismissal of government employees, cuts in federal spending, the opening of steel factories and advances in the energy sector, which, according to him, reduced external dependence.
