Colombia imposes 30% tariff on products from Ecuador and suspends electricity sales

Tariff pressure began on Wednesday (21) when Ecuador declared that Colombia was not doing enough to combat drug trafficking along their shared border

The Colombian government announced a 30% tariff on approximately twenty Ecuadorian products, not yet specified, in retaliation for a similar measure taken by the and suspended electricity sales to the country.

The tariff war began on Wednesday (21), when Ecuador declared that the was not doing enough to combat drug trafficking along the shared border.

The Colombian government announced this Thursday (22) that “this tariff is not a sanction or a confrontational measure, but rather a corrective action aimed at reestablishing trade balance and protecting the national productive sector”. He also declared that “international electricity transactions” between the two countries are suspended.
