Eight countries confirm membership in Trump’s Peace Council for Gaza

The foreign ministers of Pakistan, Egypt, Jordan, United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar welcomed the invitation extended to their leaders by US President Donald Trump to join the Gaza Peace Council.

In a statement, the ministers announced their shared decision to join the Peace Council, and that each country will sign the accession documents in accordance with their respective legal procedures.

“The objective is to consolidate a permanent ceasefire, support the reconstruction of Gaza and promote a just and lasting peace based on the Palestinians’ right to self-determination and sovereignty, in accordance with international law,” the note added.

Speaking to Italian public broadcaster RAI, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni indicated that Rome was “interested” in Trump’s Peace Council plan, but said Italy could not join immediately due to constitutional restrictions.

French President Emmanuel Macron declined the invitation.
