Whether we are cold or not is not just due to the winter temperatures. In the past few days in Austria, it was mainly the wind that made people bitterly cold outside. “This effect, that the wind increases the feeling of cold, is called the wind chill effect,” explained Clemens Biermair, meteorologist at Geosphere Austria, on Thursday. With 20 km/h wind, for example, minus five degrees can quickly feel like minus twelve degrees.
