INEM will no longer guarantee certified training for technicians, nurses and doctors in key areas of medical emergency, such as basic, immediate and advanced life support (BLS, SIV and SAV), as well as Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). The same will happen with the certification of ambulance crews.

Costs, according to the radio, can be around 500 euros per course. Until now, this training was provided free of charge at INEM.

In the case of ambulance crews, training will now take place at the National Firefighters School. A source assured the TSF that the corporations will not bear the expense, which until now has been supported by protocols made with INEM.

The institute will therefore only guarantee the so-called institutional training, which includes the introduction to the Integrated Medical Emergency System (SIEM) and action protocol courses, depending on the level of response required.

The change is not being well received among pre-hospital emergency medical technicians, who have already warned of the financial impact of the new measure.

The TSF also adds that one of the main companies with international certifications in this area was founded by the current president of INEM, Luís Cabral. This is the which is being investigated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office on suspicion of close relationships with the institute’s professionals.

Before the implementation of the new rules, INEM will guarantee a transitional regime, which maintains the courses in the previous format for those who find in formation.
