The Kings League, founded by Gerard Piqué, announced on Wednesday (21) that it achieved record audience numbers on social media and in live broadcasts for the Kings World Cup Nations tournament in Brazil.
The second edition of the annual competition generated 1.6 billion impressions on social media and more than 120 million viewers on live broadcasts, setting all-time records for a Kings League tournament, the organization said in a statement.
Brazil beat Chile 6-2 at the weekend to win the trophy at home for the second time, in front of 41,316 spectators at Allianz Parque in São Paulo.
“Kings World Cup Nations 2026 was our fourth major international tournament and our biggest yet — not just in viewing figures, but also in the scale of production and its global impact,” said Kings League CEO Djamel Agaoua.
The seven-a-side football format uses gamified rules to create more glamor and excitement, and is part of a growing set of promising new leagues looking to attract an online audience and compete with traditional 90-minute football.
These leagues feature a mix of content creators and former players, such as Ronaldo Nazário, who was president of the 2026 Kings World Cup Nations.
Created in 2022, the Kings League has national leagues across Europe, including Italy, and recently launched a league in Saudi Arabia as part of a joint collaboration with the sporting arm of the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund.
