The governor is half the age of the President of the Republic, but he seemed twice as old in terms of common sense at a ceremony to sign Petrobras contracts, in the city of Rio Grande.
In a federal government ceremony, with a controlled and friendly audience, the hostility was the same fava that has already made other governors give up attending events under the sponsorship of Planalto and are therefore accused by Luiz Inácio da Silva (PT) of undue partisanship.
(), however, was not intimidated. He went there, spoke and even used the microphone to teach a moral lesson to people who claim to be loving, unlike their hate-mongering opponents. “Is this the love that overcame fear?”, he asked, demanding respect for the elected authority such as the beloved president of the audience who, without being seen or accepted, continued to lack civic education.
The message, however, was given. It also served to expose the incoherence of the government slogan “Union and Reconstruction”, a militant practice of disunity and deconstruction. He made news of this shortly afterwards when defending the idea that 2026 should be the “year of comparison” with the governments of his predecessors () and (PL).
Neither of them is a candidate, but for a Lula who cannot guarantee himself without the presence of antagonists in his scene, that doesn’t matter. He is interested in keeping alive the “us versus them” dynamic, which is absolutely contradictory to the pacifist preaching of official propaganda.
With the gesture, the governor of Rio Grande do Sul did much more to support the veracity of the calls for moderation than any of his opposition colleagues, whose absences from official ceremonies only corroborate Lula’s diatribes and attest to the option for friction in the improper use of his institutional powers.
Leite didn’t need much to teach the fans and their leaders the meaning of representing the State. It was enough to exercise one’s own convictions without a mask.
