The Prime Minister announced that he was the target of “an act of disinformation with high public dissemination”, against which he will file a complaint.
It all started with a joke on X, this Tuesday, in which the user disclosed an alleged message from Donald Trump to Luís Montenegro.
A fake message says the following: “Your Excellency, supreme leader and great architect of modern times. I am still writing to you energized by the enormous magnitude of your recent achievements and because I know that you highly value a good agreement. While other European countries complain about the tariff policy, I see it as a demand for excellence and loyalty. Portugal does not want to be just another ‘EU country’, we want to be your main partner in the Atlantic”, reads an alleged private message published by the North American president in Truth Social.

Prime Minister didn’t like it and will file a complaint
“Apparently, originating from the user ‘Volksvargas’, a false publication by the President of the United States of America with an image of a message attributed to the Prime Minister of Portugal was spread on the social network X”, indicates a statement from the Prime Minister’s office.
The same note adds that “complaints will be filed in the appropriate instances”.
“We take this opportunity to highlight the importance of combating misinformation and alert the Portuguese to the importance of checking the credibility of information sources, particularly on social media”, the statement from the Montenegro office also states.
