The minister, of the (Supreme Federal Court), closed this Thursday (22) investigations into two delegates of the indicted on suspicion of being in favor of the then president (PL) in the 2022 elections.
The minister followed the understanding of the (Attorney General’s Office) that there is not sufficient evidence against Leo Garrido de Salles Meira and Alfredo de Souza Lima Coelho that they committed irregularities.
In August 2024, the PF indicted the former general director of the PRF () Silvinei Vasques, the former Minister of Justice and four members of the Federal Police assigned to the Federal Police at that time: Marília Ferreira Alencar and Fernando de Sousa Oliveira, in addition to Meira and Coelho.
The six were indicted based on article 359-P of the Penal Code, which provides for the crime of “restricting, preventing or hindering, through the use of physical, sexual or psychological violence, the exercise of political rights to any person due to their sex, race, color, ethnicity, religion or national origin”.
In the second round of the 2022 election, the Federal Highway Police carried out a series of inspections, especially in the Northeast, Lula’s electoral stronghold.
Silvinei, Torres and Marília were convicted by the First Panel of the Supreme Court in connection with the coup plot. Fernando de Sousa Oliveira was acquitted in a trial also related to the same episodes.
In his statement to Moraes, the Attorney General of the Republic, said that “the systematized investigations did not indicate his adherence [de Meira, Coelho e Oliveira] to the conduct of Anderson, Silvinei and Marília”.
“Therefore, there is no evidence of the existence of criminal conduct attributable to the other people being investigated or additional steps capable of changing the value judgment regarding their conduct, with there being no just cause for filing a complaint or continuing the investigation.”
Moraes decided to close the case in relation to the two delegates and, due to the convictions and acquittal of the other defendants, the investigation was also closed in relation to them.
