Oscar announces nominees this Thursday; see time and where to watch

Thursday (22) will be another decisive day for national cinema, with the announcement of the 2026 Oscar nominees by the Hollywood Academy. After historic victories at the Golden Globes, ‘The Secret Agent’ enters the competition with strength, but Brazil still has a chance with two more films.

The announcement of the Oscar 2026 nominees will begin at 10:30 am (Brasília time). The announcement can be followed live on the official Oscar website and also via the YouTube broadcast of the awards ceremony.

Brazilian films in contention

‘The Secret Agent’, by Kleber Mendonça Filho, was chosen among the 15 pre-selected for the categories of Best International Film and Best Cast, which guarantees the film’s classification for these disputes. Predictions from critics and specialized media indicate that the film could still appear among the nominees for Best Actor (Wagner Moura), Best Film, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay.

The documentary ‘Apocalipse nos Trópicos’, by Petra Costa, was selected on the shortlist for Best Documentary. The filmmaker had already been nominated for an Oscar in 2020 for Democracy in Vertigo.

The short ‘Amarela’, by André Hayato Saito, appears in the pre-selection for the Best Live Action Short category.

The film ‘Train Dreams, by Clint Bentley’, competes for a spot in Best Cinematography. Despite representing the United States, the film is directed by Brazilian Adolpho Veloso.

🏆 When will the ceremony be?

The winners of the 2026 Oscars will be announced on March 15, during the ceremony for the biggest film award in the world.
