Oscar: Lula celebrates 5 nominations from Brazil and says that country “is once again a protagonist”

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva congratulated, this Thursday (22), Brazil’s five nominations for the 2026 Oscars. The country was remembered in the categories of Best Film (“The Secret Agent”), Best Actor (Wagner Moura, for “The Secret Agent”), Best Cinematography (Adolpho Veloso, for “Dreams of a Train”), Best International Film (“The Secret Agent”) and Best Cast (“The Secret Agent”).

“Being among the best in the world is already a victory for our culture, our talent and our ability to tell stories that cross borders”, wrote Lula in an Instagram post. “When Brazilian culture is valued, Brazil returns to being a protagonist on the international scene.”

In another publication, Lula also praised Kleber Mendonça Filho, director of “The Secret Agent”, a feature film nominated in four of the five categories in which Brazil competes for the award.
