Cardiology team of the Clinical Voivodeship Hospital in Rzeszów he was the first in the region to use the method of treating mitral valve disorders, ensuring the proper flow of blood in the heartwhich does not require opening the chest. Four patients with advanced heart failure underwent the procedure classical surgery posed an unreasonable riskreports Warsaw correspondent TASR according to the PAP agency.
The new procedure is especially intended for patients with multiple concomitant diseases, such as diabetes or kidney failure, as well as for older patients. This is a group in which pharmacological treatment often does not bring sufficient effect and the state of health does not allow for invasive surgery.
During the procedure, doctors insert the implant through the jugular vein and, under imaging control, modify the shape of the valve ring to improve its tightness. The performance takes place under local anesthesia and is associated with less stress on the body and a shorter recovery time.
The head of the cardiology clinic Andrzej Przybylski said that the development of these methods is related to the aging of the population and the growing number of patients who cannot be treated in a traditional way due to a combination of diseases. Improving physical condition and reducing the need for repeated hospitalizations are considered by doctors to be the main benefits of the procedure.
According to the management of the hospital, the Rzeszów workplace is long-term aims to introduce modern and less invasive procedures, including remote monitoring of patients with implanted cardiac devices.
