Zelensky announces three-way talks with the US and Russia in the Emirates to try to reach a peace agreement

Closer to peace? The Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, announced this Thursday the first three-party talks, with the United States and Russia, since the beginning of peace negotiations, in meetings that the United Arab Emirates will host in the coming days.

In his speech at the Davos Economic Forum, the Ukrainian president confirmed that this Friday and Saturday the first “trilateral” meeting will take place that includes the Russian and Ukrainian teams at the same table.

“Tomorrow, and the day after tomorrow, we will have a trilateral meeting. This is better than not having any kind of dialogue,” Zelensky has indicated, insisting that kyiv is in a complicated situation due to Moscow’s attacks, but “the Russians are also in a difficult situation” which is why he assessed that this meeting could contribute to ending the war.

The Ukrainian leader has stated that he hopes that the Russian side will be ready to commit to an agreementhas each time indicated that Ukraine is prepared to make commitments.

Previously, the United States special envoy, Steve Witkoff, stated that both he and Jared Kushner, son-in-law of US President Donald Trump, will travel to the United Arab Emirates, where “working groups” will be created to address military and “prosperity” issues, an issue that he has described as “really important” for the future.
