Central Bank stated that Ailton de Aquino is available to the Federal Public Ministry and the PF
The director of Inspection at the Central Bank (BC), Ailton Aquino, asked the then president of the Bank of Brasília (BRB), Paulo Henrique Costa, buy fraudulent wallets from Master bank, reported the newspaper O Globo this Friday (23). The financial institution denies the information.
Aquino would have been responsible for sending messages to the then president of BRB asking him to acquire credits to help Master resolve liquidity problems.
Messages exchanged between the two were presented at least once to BRB advisors, according to the newspaper. Amidst the conversation, the council approved, on March 25 of last year, a offer to purchase 58% of Master’s shares for R$2 billion.
Months later, BRB’s offer would be reduced to 22%, but the BC still vetoed the operation. In November, the Federal Police arrested Daniel Vorcaro and six other executives from Master bank.
Ailton’s message was shown during a meeting to resolve differences between councilors. In the text, according to the newspaper O Globo, the BC director asked one of the advisors to buy more than R$300 million in Master credits.
The advice decided to purchase R$270 million in credits after a request from the “regulator”, that is, the BC. The minutes of the meeting that decided on the purchase do not mention the messages.
BC care
After the O Globo report, the BC declared that director Ailton de Aquino “never recommended the acquisition of fraudulent portfolios” to the president of BRB.
The monetary entity stated that the Autarchy’s Supervision area, under the command of director Ailton, was responsible for “identifying inconsistencies” in the sale of Banco Master’s defrauded payroll loan portfolios.
The BC also informed that, immediately, promoted “rigorous investigations, which led to the demonstration of the insubsistence of the assets comprising such portfolios”.
The note says that the initiative to promote the communication of criminal offenses to the Federal Public Ministry was “also the area headed by director Ailton de Aquino”.
“Director Ailton de Aquino makes his banking and tax information and records of conversations he held with the former President of BRB, Paulo Henrique Costa, available to the Federal Public Ministry and the Federal Police, renouncing, for this purpose, confidentiality regarding them”, states the BC in a note.
