Centrão leaders have minimized the recent noise between the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), and senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL). In the column, party chiefs mentioned that there is still a lot of time until the election, but they note that Tarcísio is heading for re-election to Palácio dos Bandeirantes.

The president of the PL, Valdemar Costa Neto, said he was “sure of Tarcísio’s support [à Flávio]”, adding that he “is a serious man”. “It would be better, in my opinion, if everyone joined Flávio. If this does not happen, the result will be the same. Flávio and Lula in the second round.” The day before, denied that there is tension between the Bolsonaro family and the governor of São Paulo.

In addition to Valdemar, other party leaders did not want to be identified, but spoke to the reporter under condition of confidentiality. For an important leader, it becomes clear that there is no split when, right after theTarcísio sets a new date to visit former president Jair Bolsonaro. “There is irritation, there is strife. But it is a relationship of interdependence. I still don’t notice splits. They resolve themselves”, said the source.

He reiterates that Tarcísio should be a candidate for re-election, as well as another chief, who believes that adjustments will be made. “The disagreement is the result of different times. Tarcísio doesn’t want to dive now and Flávio does. But Tarcísio will still jump in head first, in his time. Flavio won’t give up”, he reiterated.

There are those who believe, however, within the Centrão, that it is still too early to make major definitions, and that the time is still for state negotiations before thinking about the macro.

It is worth remembering that,as the column has reported, Tarcísio’s team is also working with a “plan B”. The focus is on the campaign for the state government, but there is preparation to change the game, if necessary.
