Corinthians officially recognized, in its list of creditors under the Execution Centralization Regime (RCE), the imminent risk of having to pay almost R$ 10 million in a legal dispute against Warner/Chappel Music and the heirs of singer Tim Maia. The information is from ‘ESPN’.
In the document, the club classifies as “probable loss” the exact amount of R$ 9.943.396,28referring to a copyright infringement lawsuit that has been going on for years. But what is the reason for this debt? Sporting News shows.

Why do Corinthians owe Tim Maia?
The origin of the conflict dates back to 2012, during the club’s world title campaign. On that occasion, Corinthians used the melody of the classic “I don’t want money (I just want to love)” in advertising campaigns on TV and social media, in addition to printing verses from the adapted song on the players’ shirts. The fans’ version, which says “All week, I was waiting, to see you Corinthians, to see you playing…”, was considered by the Courts as the basis for undue economic exploitation by the institution.
The lawsuit was opened in 2017 by the record company and the singer’s son, Carmelo Maia. Although Corinthians tried to argue that the lyrics were a creation of the fans, that the videos were the responsibility of TV Globo and that the use was a mere “paraphrase” (which would not require authorization), judge Maria Honório rejected the theses. The judge understood that there was a complete reproduction of the most famous part of the work and direct commercial use.
After the legal defeat, Warner began the collection phase (judgment settlement) in 2023, demanding an amount close to R$10 million. The club, although it included this total amount in the RCE as a precaution, still hopes to reduce the compensation. The black and white defense relies on an expert report that calculates the “most correct” value of the debt at around R$4 millionwhile the process continues to be processed under secrecy.
