Its size is shocking, so it will last you the whole week. What’s more, you can use it in the kitchen in many different ways and improve your health at the same time.

A fruit worth including in your diet is… pomelo, also known as shadok. It grows naturally in Southeast Asia and is considered the largest citrus fruit in the world. It can have a diameter of up to 30 cm and weigh up to 2 kg.

Shadok has light green or yellowish skin. The flesh, in turn, is pink, white or yellow in color and is quite dry – it does not drip with juice like in the case of tangerines or oranges.

What does pomelo taste like? Its taste is sweet and refreshing with a noticeable hint of bitterness. It’s something like a combination of grapefruit and orange.

How much does this fruit cost? We can buy this citrus fruit in supermarkets in the autumn and winter season. Typically, the price of one piece ranges from PLN 6 to PLN 9.

Pomelo is rich in vitamin C (60 mg). It has more of it than oranges or lemons. It also contains other valuable vitamins, i.e. A, B1, B2, B3, B3 and minerals: sodium, potassium, phosphorus, copper, manganese.

How much calorie has a pomelo? This food we find to be low caloric. It contains only 40 calories per 100 g. It also has a low glycemic index (30).

Pomelo is most often eaten raw. We just have to remember to remove the skin and white membranes, which may be bitter.

This citrus fruit goes well with various fruit and vegetable salads enriched with a light dressing. It can be successfully added to oatmeal, rice with milk, chia desserts and pancakes.

It is also worth making a smoothie and freshly squeezed juice from pomelo. We also recommend adding them to meat marinades. This will give them a citrus flavor.
