Sánchez affirms that the Government assumes from the first moment its responsibilities regarding the Adamuz accident

The President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, assured this morning that the Executive is assuming “from the first moment” all its responsibilities related to the train accident in Adamuz (Córdoba) in which 45 people died and has announced that it will work to restore confidence in high speed.

Sánchez referred to this accident in the press conference after the meeting of European Union leaders on Greenland. When asked what responsibility the Government assumes after that accident and the one that also occurred in Gelida (Barcelona), the head of the Executive responded: “We assume all of them, as we have been doing since the first moment of the tragedy.”

In any case, he also wanted to come out in defense of the high-speed rail system, stating that it is a source of pride for the entire country and a priority for his Government because it improves the way of moving around Spain, and they will work to restore confidence in it on the part of the citizens.

Regarding the victims, he said that “the damage is irreparable, but the victims will always count on the Government to help with whatever is needed and, as I have always said, from the first minute of this crisis, of this tragedy, we are going to respond as we have responded to any of the crises we have faced,” he added. In short, this response will be with absolute empathy towards the victims, with transparency, with cooperation between institutions, since there are shared powers, and with effectiveness.

Sánchez has once again expressed his solidarity with the people who have lost a loved one in both the Adamuz and Gelida accidents, and has insisted that the Government will act with respect for the victims, institutional unity, technical rigor and maximum transparency.

In the same way, he thanked the work of all public servants and ordinary citizens who have responded to the tragedy with generosity, humanity and professionalism. (EFE)
