Advertising will appear on cheaper subscription plans; company says that conversation information will not be passed on to advertisers
OpenAI, developer of ChatGPT, said it will test ads within the platform for lower subscription plans. The company stated on January 16, in on your website, that advertising will appear for users of the free plan and for ChatGPT Go, which costs US$8 and is only available in some markets.
Already the Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise subscription plans will not receive ads.
The company said that the information that users place on the platform will not be passed on to advertisers and that the choice of advertising will be guided by what is “objectively useful”. The tests will initially be carried out in the United States.
The advertisementss must appear at the bottom of the responses when the conversation is related to a product or service. The company states that advertising will be identified and will be separated from non-sponsored content. They will also not be broadcast close to sensitive topics such as mental health or politics.
“Because of what AI is already capable of doing, we’re excited to, over time, create new experiences that people find more useful and relevant than any other type of ad. Conversational interfaces open up possibilities to go beyond static messages and links. For example, you might soon see an ad and ask the questions you need to make a purchasing decision right there.”says the company statement.
