Monumental poolsa sanctuary possibly dedicated to the cult of Hercules and two Republican-era tombs were discovered during preventative archaeological excavations in Rome.
The finds occurred in the Parco delle Acacie 2 region, along Via di Pietralata, as part of an urban planning program.

According to special superintendent Daniela Porro, the discoveries reinforce the importance of preventive archeology in urban development and expand the understanding of the extent of Ancient Rome beyond the best-known sites.
According to her, areas currently occupied by modern neighborhoods still preserve significant traces of the city’s past.
Those identified indicate the presence of a wealthy family group in the region during the Republican period. The two monumental pools raise different hypotheses of use, as structures linked to religious rituals or, less likely, to production or capture of water.

After the excavations are completed, scheduled for the next few months, a study will begin to define a plan to enhance the area and deepen the scientific analysis of the findings.
