The Delcy Rodríguez-Trump agreement, before Maduro's fall (and the ping pong and champagne)

Delcy Rodriguez takes office as interim president of Venezuela

Interim president of Venezuela assured the US president that he would collaborate when Nicolás Maduro leaves office.

The interim president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, guarantee to the Government of the North American President, Donald Trump, yours cooperation when Nicolás Maduro fallsrevealed the diary.

The British newspaper says it obtained the information from four different sources.

According to these sources, Delcy and her brother Jorge did not participate actively involved in the capture and kidnapping of Nicolas Maduro by US forces on January 3; but they had assured the US Government, through intermediaries, that would cooperate with them the next day.

Delcy, who was vice-president of Maduro, took office as president just two days after the capture of the former Venezuelan head of state.

The Guardian’s sources assure that there were representatives of the Government of Qatar involved in the Rodríguez negotiations with the United States.

These contacts were being made since the autumn and intensified after fruitless telephone communication in November between Trump and Maduro and which aimed to achieve the voluntary departure of the then president of Venezuela from power.

In December, and given the worsening of the situation, Delcy told one of his North American interlocutors that “I would collaborate with the result presented”as this interlocutor told the newspaper.

The US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, initially very reticent to collaborate with the Rodríguez, came to understand that Delcy and her brother were perhaps the less bad alternative to ensure a relatively peaceful transition that avoided chaos in that country.

In October, the newspaper published an article stating that Delcy Rodríguez actively or passively conspired to bring Maduro down for their own ambitions.

Although the current interim president of Venezuela had categorically denied this information, her reaction seemed to convince Rubio and his circle that she was an ambivalent person with whom an agreement could be reached, continues The Guardian.

The diary adds that the character de Delcy also helped win her over as secret ally, describing her as a person with “charming quirks that help you win friends”like his passion for ping pong — has his own coach —, for drinking champagne and for challenging foreign leaders for several games.

Finally, the newspaper indicates that there was another decisive factor: its fluid relationship with the North American oil sectorwho also suggested to anyone who would listen that she could be a good interlocutor in the future.
