This is the first tripartite meeting of these countries aimed at ending the war. UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan informed about it, according to whom the talks will last two days. TASR writes about it according to AFP.
Among others, Ukraine is represented at the meeting by Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov, Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Kyrylo Budanov and Chief of the General Staff Andriy Hnatov. The Russian team is led by the head of the GRU military intelligence service, Igor Kostyukov.
The main topic of the negotiations
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said on Friday that the negotiating teams will mainly discuss the territorial control of the eastern Ukrainian region of Donbas. According to him, this is a “key question”.
Before the meeting of working groups in the UAE, US ambassadors Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner held talks with Putin in Moscow. The Russian president’s adviser Yuriy Ushakov also took part in the meeting. According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, Russia continues to insist on its demand that Ukrainian troops withdraw from Donbass.
