Trump says he “helped save” TikTok

The President of the United States, (Republican Party), said that “helped save” the . On Thursday (January 22, 2026), , the Chinese company that owns the platform, transferred its operation in the USA to a group led by North American investors.

“Now he will belong to a group of great North American patriots and investors, the largest in the world, and will be an important voice”the Republican at Truth Social.

A joint venture created, called “TikTok USDS Joint Venture LLC”, will be responsible for managing the data of North American users.

The agreement establishes that , the private equity Silver Lake and the Abu Dhabi-based investment company will collectively control 45% of the North American entity.

Around 1/3 of the company will remain with affiliates of ByteDance’s existing investors, some of them North Americans, while ByteDance itself will maintain approximately 20% of the business.

Trump stated that the social network was, “along with other factors”responsible for its “good performance with the youth vote in the presidential election” of 2024.

The Republican thanked the President of China, Xi Jinping (CCP), for working with the US and, “finally, approve the agreement” related to TikTok.

The sale is confirmed after years of pressure from the US government. In 2020, Trump demanded that ByteDance sell its US operations. In 2024, the banning of the application if it was not sold, legislation in January 2025.

The prevailing view in the White House is that the Chinese application represented a threat to national sovereignty by allowing access to data on US citizens.

According to the company, the joint venture will license the algorithm from ByteDance and train it with data from North American users to ensure content is free from external manipulation. Oracle will act as the security partner, responsible for auditing and validating compliance with agreed national security terms.
