Vance justifies ICE action against five-year-old boy after father’s arrest

Vice President JD Vance defended the administration’s immigration crackdown in Minnesota and the recent detention of a young child during remarks today in Minneapolis.

Vance mentioned the arrest of five-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos, who was taken by federal agents from the driveway of his family’s home in Minneapolis on Tuesday (20), after returning from preschool. According to a source familiar with the situation, the boy is being held while his father remains in custody at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) center in Texas.

Vance refuted allegations that the boy had been arrested and defended ICE agents.

The vice president stated that, concluded that the agents “went to arrest his father, an illegal immigrant. The father fled. So the story is that ICE detained a 5-year-old. Well, what are they supposed to do? Let a five-year-old freeze to death? Not arrest a ?”

Vance went on to say, “If the argument is that you can’t arrest people who violate our laws because they have children, then every parent would have complete immunity from ever being targeted by law enforcement. That doesn’t make sense. Nobody thinks that makes sense.”
