The Samsung Galaxy S25 Plus that exploded overnight
After one case in October, another in November. Case is in court for victim reporting potential long-term effects from inhaling toxic lithium ion vapors.
After a Galaxy S25 Plus exploded in November, after just two months of use, Samsung admitted responsibility for the incident.
The case was reported by the scoopofwei account on the social network. According to the publication, the equipment suffered an episode of thermal runaway while charging overnight. This caused a fire and an intense release of smoke, which led to a visit to an emergency room for treatment of respiratory problems.
After the evaluation, Samsung agreed to fully reimburse the value of the Galaxy S25 Plus, as well as direct medical expenses and cleaning and home repair costs. Furthermore, Samsung’s Fire and Marine Insurance team offered $500 per person to the two adults and the child involved, who however dispute the amount and say potential long-term effects from inhaling toxic lithium ion vapors.
The protest is also based on the psychological trauma caused, since one of the victims, according to the report, became afraid of charging his cell phone after the incident.
On the day of the incident, the equipment exploded and caught fireburning the carpet in the house. It was confirmed that official brand charger and cable were being used.
The victims presented Samsung with the report from the local fire department, which pointed to thermal runaway as the cause of the fire. Medical records related to smoke inhalation and proof of purchase of equipment and catering materials were also provided.
The smartphone was under forensic examination by firefighters for a month and was then sent to Samsung’s forensic team for internal investigation.
A similar case was registered in October. On that occasion, the explosion of a Galaxy S25 Plus unit caused a slight burn to the victim’s finger, who stated that further damage was avoided due to the use of an “anti-shock” cover. As with the most recent fire, Samsung refunded the equipment.
