Away from the field since January 2023, when he played for Pumas, from Mexico, Daniel Alves is preparing his return to the field in order to try to help the team you co-own to save themselves from relegation to the fourth division of Portuguese football.
Since January this year, the 42-year-old player has been a club in the Aveiro region, which competes in League 3 – the third tier – of the Portuguese Championship. The team occupies the penultimate position in Zone A, with two wins in 17 games, and ends its participation in the first phase this Sunday, against Paredes.
According to the Portuguese newspaper A Bola, Daniel Alves must announce their decision after the round. He is considering signing up as an athlete and returning to the field in the next phase of the competition to try to save the team from falling into the Portuguese Championship, the country’s fourth division. The former athlete for the Brazilian national team, Barcelona, Juventus and São Paulo has published a series of photos on his social networks working out in the gym and showing off good shape.
The last time Daniel Alves entered the field was on January 8, 2023, when he assisted on a goal in Pumas’ 2-1 victory over Juárez, in the 1st round of the Clausura Tournament of the Mexican Championship, before being arrested in Spain accused of sexual assault.
After serving 14 months of the four and a half years in prison to which he had been sentenced in February 2024, the Brazilian was acquitted in March 2025 by the Court of Justice of Catalonia, which revoked the sentence because it considered the evidence insufficient. Since then, the athlete, who has always denied the accusation, has worked behind the scenes in football.
Daniel Alves also got his UEFA A license to work as a coach, his main objective when he decides to hang up his boots for good.
