Actor Donald Douglas, best known for his role as Admiral Darcy, died at the age of 92 – the movie father of the character played by Colin Firth in Bridget Jones’s Diary. He died after a short illness last week in hospital, surrounded by family and friends, reports . He is survived by his wife Emma Temple, three children – Amy, Liza and Jodie – and five grandchildren.
Douglas was born in 1933 in Falkirk, Scotland. He studied at the Edinburgh College of Art and later at the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. He broke into television in the adaptations of Walter Scott’s novels Redgauntlet and Rob Roy.
During his long career, he appeared in popular series such as Doctor Who, Poldark (as Captain Malcolm McNeil) or EastEnders, where he briefly portrayed the character of Hugh Aitken. In later years, he continued in theater productions even after moving to France. His last known acting project was the 2021 drama Nobody Has To Know.
