Floods wake up wave of deadly natural disasters: Landslide buries at least 7 people

At least seven people have been killed and 82 others are missing after a landslide in Indonesia’s West Java province. This was reported by the Disaster Management Office on Saturday, according to which heavy rains hit the area. TASR informs about it based on a Reuters report.

“The number of missing persons is high, today we will try to optimize our search and rescue operations,” said the spokesperson of the office. The Indonesian Meteorological Service has previously warned of extreme weather, including heavy rains in West Java province, which are expected to last at least a week, according to local media.

At the beginning of the year, flash floods hit the Indonesian province of North Sulawesi. They claimed at least 16 lives and forced hundreds of residents to leave their homes. Indonesia is frequently affected by floods, landslides and other natural disasters, especially during the rainy season, which usually peaks between December and February.
