During the passage through the urban area of Valparaíso de Goiás, at the end of the walk that began on Monday (19), federal deputy Nikolas Ferreira (PL-MG) spoke with the reporter from Young Pan on public support and the impact of the movement. Among the objectives of the act is the protest against the arrest of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and others convicted of the acts of January 8, 2023.

Surrounded by supporters, the parliamentarian stated that the action went beyond simple euphoria and generated a political awareness. “What is happening is not euphoria, what is happening is an awakening of people”, declared Nikolas. According to the deputy, the population has shown greater attention to the problems of their state and city, citing as examples issues of “local agendas” and “garbage tariffs”.

Nikolas states that the aim of the mobilization has already been fulfilled even before completing the route. “The walk has already achieved its objective, which is to wake people up, for them to look around and know what is happening in their city,” he stated.

Asked about the logistics of the event, which occupied highways and attracted a large number of people, the deputy highlighted the absence of serious incidents. “Thank God, no accidents, no vandalism. We are walking peacefully,” he said. Nikolas acknowledged that, although the act took on a greater proportion than expected, the order was “maintained”.

When asked how he feels after the physical effort and the repercussions of the act, Nikolas replied that he will be “stronger and more burned”.

Understand the walk

Nikolas Ferreira started a walk on Monday, which left Minas Gerais and is headed to Brasília. Through social media, the deputy said that he decided to return to the federal capital on foot as a “symbolic” movement to “bring light” and “give hope to those who have already given up”. The arrival is scheduled for this sunday (25).

“My heart is restless in the face of the things that are happening, it is scandal after scandal, Brazilians have been in a position practically of psychological manipulation, where nothing can shake them anymore and this indignation that you feel, this impotence is not just yours, I, as a federal deputy, am a witness to how many [parlamentares] have the same feeling regarding the unjust arrests of the acts of January 8th and the same [detenção] of Bolsonaro”, declared Nikolas in a video posted at the beginning of the event.

The deputy also stated that he “understood the strategy” of the “enemy”. Without naming names, Nikolas said that the adversaries “want to kill them alive”, “silence them” and “throw them into invisibility”. “I’m going to do this walk and act as a symbolic act for people to remember and remember who we are and [por qual razão] we are here”, he declared.

Since publishing the video, the parliamentarian began sharing his walk to Brasília. Nikolas has recalled, every 10km, “an absurd case happening in the country”. The parliamentarian’s first report was about the death of merchant Cleriston Pereira da Cunhaknown as Clezão, at the Papuda Penitentiary Complex, in Brasília, while he was preventively detained for the acts of January 8, 2023.
