President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) defended this Friday, the 23rd, greater involvement of members of the Landless Rural Workers Movement (MST) in the 2026 elections. According to him, it is necessary to demystify that “liking politics is not liking the wrong thing”.
“There is no point in us dreaming a lot and, after the electoral result, placing 574 deputies as a ruralist bench and only two landless people elected as federal deputies”, declared the PT member in Salvador (BA), during the 14th National Meeting of the MST.
Lula said he was happy when he received a list of members of the group who intended to be candidates. “Thank God you made the decision to enter politics. Why do you know what the misfortune is for those who don’t participate in political life? It’s that they are governed by those who like (politics)”, he stated.
Opportunity with security!
The president also said that, when he became president, he had the intention of “making as many settlements as possible”, but that he was faced with the lack of structure at the National Institute of Colonization and Agrarian Reform (Incra).
Lula also signaled his desire to meet with rural groups in February. “Still in the middle of February, I want to have a meeting with the rural movement group in this country to discuss more precisely everything that has been done and to discuss what needs to be done in the next period in this country”, he said.
