Távora-Varosa wine region increases sales by 10% despite drop in production

The Moimenta da Beira cooperative is one of the main responsible for the region’s success, demonstrating the importance of unity and agriculture in the interior of the country.

The Távora-Varosa region continues to grow in the production and sale of sparkling wine. A cooperative in Moimenta of Beira, which represents 900 producers, continues to be one of the main levers in the sector.

It is one of the smallest wine regions in the country, but Távora-Varosa has grown significantly in recent years.

Driven by sparkling wine, in the last five campaigns, the increase in production almost reached 15%.

The year 2025 was not exactly famous for Portuguese viticulture.

The Douro, next door, lost 34% of production compared to the previous year.

Távora-varosa managed to minimize losses and only dropped 6% in production compared to 2024

Despite this, it saw sales increase by 10% compared to the previous year, which had already been a year exceptional.

Even so, the region wants a national policy that encourages more domestic consumption.

The numbers in the Távora-Varosa wine region owe a large part to the cooperative in Moimenta da Beira, which represents, in the wine sector alone, more than 900 winegrowers.

With two winemaking structures, is one of the largest employers in the regiono. AND also proof that the interior can still live from union and agriculture.
