The first round of trilateral negotiations between the delegations of Russia, Ukraine and the USA in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) ended on Friday evening. The negotiators will continue the talks on Saturday. TASR informs about it according to the AFP agency.
“The meeting was devoted to the parameters for ending the war with Russia and the further logic of the negotiation process with the aim of achieving a dignified and lasting peace,” said chief Ukrainian negotiator Rustem Umerov on the X social network.
In addition to Umerov, Ukraine was represented at the meeting by the head of the presidential office, Kyrylo Budanov, the chairman of the Servant of the Nation parliamentary club, Davyd Arachamiya, and the first deputy minister of foreign affairs of Ukraine, Serhiy Kyslycia. According to Umerov, the Russian delegation was composed of representatives of military intelligence and the armed forces.
On behalf of the American side, the envoy of President Donald Trump took part in the negotiations Steve Witkoff, negotiator Jared Kushneran adviser on Trump’s Peace Council Josh Gruenbaum, Secretary of Defense for Land Forces Daniel Driscoll and the commander of American forces in Europe, Gen Alexus Grynkewich.
“The Ukrainian team acts in a coordinated manner within the framework of the tasks set by President Volodymyr Zelenskyi. We are ready to work in different formats depending on the progress of the dialogue,” wrote Umerov. Zelenskyi said on Friday that the negotiating teams will mainly discuss the territorial control of the eastern Ukrainian region of Donbas. According to him, this is a key question.
