📢❄️81 roads affected by snow, 14 main ones:
🔴Mandatory use of chains
A-6, Lugo, Piedrafita🟡Trucks are prohibited
🟡A-1 Madrid and Burgos, from Molar to Villímar
🟡AP-1 Burgos capital to Miranda de Ebro,
🟡A-2 Guadalajara and Soria,— General Traffic Director (@DGTes)
DGT has reported the prohibition of truck circulation on the roads that connect Madrid with the north and northwest, especially on the A-1 (from Madrid to Burgos), on the A-2 (between Guadalajara and Soria), on the AP-1 (between Burgos and Miranda de Ebro, on the AP-6 (from Guadarrama to Ávila) and the A-15 in Soria. The limitations for heavy transport also extend to the northwest of the peninsula, with prohibitions on the A-52 and the A-6 as it passes through Zamora, affecting connections with Lugo and Orense. In addition, the use of chains is mandatory to circulate on the A-6 in Lugo, while the A-1 as it passes through the north of Madrid and Burgos remains passable but with caution.
On the other hand, snow conditions traffic on the A-50 (Ávila and Salamanca), the A-73 (Burgos), the A-66 and the AP-66 (León and Zamora), as well as the A-231 (León and Palencia), the A-8 (Lugo) and the AG-53 (Pontevedra). At these points it is recommended to take extreme caution in the presence of snow on the road.
In this situation, the DGT recommends checking the weather and traffic information before setting off, not making unnecessary trips and not forgetting to bring chains or winter tires.
The storm has caused several truck jams since early this Friday, particularly in León and Zamora. On the A-6, as it passes through the province of León, there were about 500 bagged articulated vehicles and another 100 on the N-630, in Zamora there are around 300 trucks stopped in Quintanilla de Urz, at kilometer 15 of the A-52, another 20 in Mombuey at kilometer 54 and more than 200 trucks in Puebla de Sanabria at kilometer 79. To this sum are added 20 heavy vehicles at kilometer 272.60 of that highway, in La Torre del Valle. At kilometer 103 of the N-525 another 25 have been pocketed, reports Juan Navarro.
In a statement, the National Road Transport Committee (CNTC) has denounced the “chaotic situation” that in its opinion is being generated by the restrictions imposed by the DGT on the road network, which has caused there to be “more than 10,000 trucks packed on roads” on which “not a single flake of snow” has fallen, all based “on a mere weather forecast that has not yet come true.” The note supported by the main transport organizations has indicated that there are “thousands of drivers with their goods, including live animals, perishable and dangerous goods,” who “await the arrival of the snow on clean roads to be, now, permanently surrounded.” “All this because of the delusional order issued by the DGT,” he reproached.
The Galician Government, due to the foreseeable impact of the storm, had suspended classes for this Friday in educational centers and nursery schools throughout the province of Ourense, as well as in the mountain areas, the south and center of Lugo and in the interior of Pontevedra. Due to the red alert due to coastal phenomena, activities outside the educational centers in the northwest, west and southwest areas of the province of A Coruña, Mariña de Lugo and in the areas of Rías Baixas and Miño in the province of Pontevedra have also been suspended this Friday.
The storm has also caused delays and incidents in long-distance trains to or from the community, accumulating nearly two hours of delay and passengers transported by road. According to Renfe sources consulted by Europa Press, the atmospheric conditions that most strongly affected the province of León have caused speed to be limited in the area, generating delays throughout the morning. Special technical inspection work also had to be carried out due to accumulation of snow and ice on the cars.
