The president of the United States, Donald Trump, revealed in an interview published this Saturday that during the operation that culminated in the capture of then Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro, the Pentagon used a new generation weapon which, according to him, neutralized Venezuela’s military capacity.

During the interview he also mentioned the possibility of executing “ground attacks” against Latin American cartels if necessary. When asked if this could happen in Mexican, Venezuelan or Colombian territory, he responded that “it could be anywhere,” leaving open the option of operations outside international waters.
Additionally, the president commented on recent Venezuelan crude oil negotiations. Trump said that the United States has taken control of the seized oil and that plans to sell up to 50 million barrels, with the intention that both Caracas and Washington obtain benefits. “Venezuela will have part and we will have part. Then the big oil companies will come in and extract so much oil that Venezuela will make more money than ever before,” he explained.
Finally, Trump assured that his relationship with the new Venezuelan interim leader, Delcy Rodríguez, is positive and that “We have a great relationship with the new president. She has been fantastic.”
