Brazilian citizen Luis Peterson Rohr Ferreira Borges, aged 25, pleaded guilty last Thursday (22) to accusation of assault on federal agents North Americans. The confession was made before Judge Vernon D. Oliver in federal court in Hartford, as announced by the United States Department of Justice.

The incident occurred on June 25, 2025, when agents from the Immigration and Customs Service (ICE) and Detention and Removal Operations (ERO) detained the Brazilian in the region of Zion Street, in Hartford. According to the note, Luis Peterson resisted arrest and, after being placed in an official vehicle, attacked the officers with kicks, in addition to shouting offensive words.

During the journey to the federal building, the Brazilian tried to kick the officer driving the vehicle in the neck, spit on the driver and bit a second officer who was trying to restrain him. At the time of his arrest, there was already an arrest warrant for him, issued in October 2023, for violating immigration laws.

Sentence

In addition to the federal case, Ferreira Borges faces state proceedings in Connecticut, arising from a previous arrest in September 2023. On that occasion, he was accused of crimes such as assault on public security personnel, disturbing the peace and intimidation based on prejudice or bias.

The Brazilian has remained in detention since his arrest in June. The sentencing hearing was scheduled for April 16. Under US federal law, he could face a maximum sentence of one year in prison.

The case is part of “Operation Take Back America“, an initiative of the Department of Justice aimed at combating irregular immigration and of violent crimes in local communities. The investigation was conducted by Homeland Security (HSI) and immigration (ICE/ERO) agencies.
