Brazilian man pleads guilty to assaulting ICE agents in the US, says prosecutor

A 25-year-old Brazilian pleaded guilty to assaulting federal agents from the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) while executing an arrest warrant in Connecticut, the state’s district attorney’s office said in a statement released on Friday, 23.

According to prosecutor David Sullivan, Luis Peterson Rohr Ferreira Borges confessed in court to having resisted the approach of federal agents on June 25, 2025, in the city of Hartford. At the time, he was the target of a warrant issued in October 2023, on charges of illegally staying in the country.

According to the prosecutor’s note, the Brazilian reacted violently to the arrest. “After being placed in a police vehicle, he kicked, struggled and shouted obscenities at the officers,” the agency said.

The statement also reports that, during the journey to a federal building, Borges “started to lift and move his leg, which was a few centimeters away from the agent driving the vehicle”, and even threatened the police officer. “He then bit another officer who tried to restrain him and spat on the officer who was driving the vehicle,” says the note.

The Brazilian has remained in custody since his arrest. Sentencing is scheduled for April 16. Under the federal charge, he could be sentenced to up to a year in detention.

In addition to this case, Borges faces another case in the Superior Court of Connecticut, related to a previous arrest, in September 2023. In this investigation, he is accused of aggression against public security agents and other essential service professionals, in addition to disturbing the order, obstruction of justice and intimidation motivated by prejudice.
